Luke Mitchell and Peter Kloss reporting This Washington team broke an all-time club record, and scored an astonishing victory, hitting 304 for 5 to beat Amersham in the sunshine. Our innings started well although Kiwi went after just 3 overs for 16. Walshy then opened up with a string of superbly timed 4s. He departed for 72 in the 19th over. Aff stayed almost to the end and glued the innings together, scoring 79. Clint scored 33, followed by Sandeep with 17, both innings scored quickly, but it did seem all the good work might be in vain with 74 needed from the final 6 overs in this 40/40 contest. But no, despite a calf injury sustained whilst fielding earlier, up stepped Aftab Akram. His scorecard included only 3 dots in a total of 52 from 21 balls. Aff departed just before the end and Stu stayed with Aftab to see the end, scoring the winning runs with 5 balls remaining! It was an amazing victory which seemed most unlikely earlier when Amersham had posted 303 for 8 from their 40 overs. Their innings included numerous straight sixes and although the Wash weren't bad in the field, they definitely took full advantage of a beautiful pitch and a carpet-like outfield. Highlight of the innings was Clint's 4-27, and Sandeep also took 2. This was the highest ever successful run chase by Washington, beating the 270 for 6 against Highgate in 2013. Like that game, what marked the success was the team effort, with several batsman contributing and some strong batting partnerships. We were blessed with the presence of Glucky, Klossy, Elaine, Karen and Mr Kripps Senior - thank you for your support! Well done everyone and I'd especially like to pay tribute to Clint for both his individual efforts, but also his cool and clear leadership. Man of the Match: shared between Walshy, Aff and Aftab
