Good Bowling and Strong Batting Partnerships Do the Trick for Wash
Archway Graces C.C. | 175 all out (37.3 overs)
Washington C.C. | 178 for 5 (34 overs)
Peter Kloss reporting There was a good win for the Wash on Sunday as they bowled well to dismiss Archway Graces for 175, and then created 3 strong batting partnerships to overhaul the total with 5 wickets and 6 overs to spare. It was a glorious hot summer’s day in Potters Bar and the dry pitch and outfield played well for both sides. Skipper for the day Peter Kloss lost the toss and Washington were asked to field first. The best Wash bowling performances came from Luke Mitchell (2-15), Peter Kloss (3-17) and Arun Prasad (2-14), although all the bowlers chipped in significantly. Peter Kloss, aided by the hot conditions and a stiff breeze across the pitch, swung the ball prodigiously. He bowled his first victim behind his legs with one which everyone thought was going well down leg side and the degree of swing brought back memories of bowling performances 5 years ago. The only regret for the Wash in the field was that having had Archway at 75 for 7, they let a further 100 runs away. There were a couple of dropped catches which really should have been taken. Washington’s batting was solid on this day. There was a good start from openers Glenn Matthews (16) and Nassar Ahmad (3) to weather the first 8 overs, but it was when Sudeep (76*) came to the crease that they were really able to take control. However it was the 3 partnerships which the batsmen forged which made the difference. Lee Fogarty (17), Arun Prasad (22) and Naveed Mir (34*) each batted with Sudeep for significant periods, and although the individual scores seem unremarkable it was the partnerships (39, 59 and 49*) which got the Wash home in comfort. Sudeep himself played a masterful innings and never looked in any trouble against reasonably tight bowling. If there had been further runs to get he surely would have made a ton. Man of the match: Sudeep for his 76 unbeaten runs
