Monday 31st August 2009 vs Great Gaddesden C.C.

Game, Set and Match to Sandeep!

Washington C.C. 245 for 6 (40 overs)
Great Gaddesden C.C. 168 all out (32.2 overs)

The weather Gods blessed us with the best weather of the weekend for our only cricket match last weekend and boy, did the team deliver.

Warm weather, great setting and there were many highlights.... Rob Tidey opened the batting and batted with a freedom that we haven't seen in a long time putting on 30 of the 38 runs for the opening partnership. Chris Davis, came in a played a great knock for his 50 and, this is true my friends, even hit a 6! The KFC Colonel, Sandeep then came in and played an unusually subdued innings. At least that is what everyone thought in the first few overs but once he had the measure of the pitch and got his eye in he went ballistic, like one of KFC's chickens on roids! A few batsmen came and went but all along Sandeep was there and the scoreboard was ticking over and the score was mounting. The final partnership putting on 68 with Glucky getting one but playing a valuable role, saw Sandeep finish on 122 not out. The Wash had just over 240 on the board and was it enough?

The Wash took to the field and despite some good bowling from Mariner and Murrain, Great Gaddesden's openers rollicked along at almost 7 runs an over. If that carried on then 240 was never going to be enough. In fact, the openers put on almost 90 runs in the first 11 overs! This despite some good bowling and fielding by the team. The Wash machine then kicked in some good catches were taken by Murrain (x2), White, Naseem and the Colonel. Glucky got a good wicket, Pendry "31" deceived a batsman to leave a straight one and bowled him and some fiery stuff from Tidey and next thing you know the oppo were all out and the Wash had won by nigh on 100 runs.

All in all a fantastic team display but am afraid to say that man of the match goes to Sandeep Kuckreja for his stunning innings topped off with 6 wickets!

Well done guys and great skippering kiwi.
