Battersea Ironsides C.C. | 56 all out (21.2 overs)
Washington C.C. | 61 for 0 (7.3 overs)
The club had a very easy victory on Saturday in South Wimbledon as they bowled out Battersea Ironsides for only 56 and then proceeded to knock off the runs in less than 8 overs without losing a wicket. Tony 'Kiwi' Harris was making his debut as the new club Vice Captain. He won the toss and elected to bowl on a soft and grassy early season wicket. All the bowlers played well with the star performances coming from Tobe Mariner (3-10), David Gluckman (3-14) and debutant Brett Nicholas (2-0) who grabbed 2 wickets with his first 2 balls for the Wash! Mariner was on a hat-trick at one point but bowled the crucial ball wide down the leg side. The Ironsides total might have been even lower had skipper Harris not allowed the first 3 batsman to bat again, the opposition having only 8 players due to some no-shows. George Hope (46*) and Chris Davis (15*) hit the runs off quickly, Hope smashing three 6s and several 4s in his innings. Wash players were well occupied, providing 3 fieldsmen to give the Ironsides their full complement". The match was over well before 5pm and players from both sides adjourned to the pub next door to the ground. Kiwi said after the game "Great to start in winning ways, and particularly pleasing to see the likies of Glucky and Brett getting a look in. It was the right thing to allow 3 of their batsmen to have another go and give them some fieldsmen. We were trying to make a game of it, but ultimately we were just far too strong." Man of the Match: Brett Nicholas, for a (probably) unequaled achievement in starting a Wash career - 2 wickets in his first 2 balls bowled! Packing the kit: George Hope, for a dreadful dropped catch off Glucky Washington: Hope, Davis, Naseem, Nicholas, Murrain, Harris (c), Hitchcock (+), Fogarty, Gluckman, Mariner, Kloss
