Highgate C.C. | 191 (26.1 overs) | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Peter Kloss reporting The Tidey family bowled Washington Cricket Club to their win on Sunday at Highgate. Terry Tidey grabbed two wickets and his sons Nick and Robert three each as Highgate crumbled under the pressure of the medium pace trio. Earlier in this declaration game Washington had set a stiff target as Don Campbell (61) and Peter Demitri (48) struck an authoritative opening partnership of 119 in under 20 overs. In fact scoring rates were in excess of six per over all day thanks to the small ground and very fast outfield. Highgate actually out-scored Washington but crucially could not hold onto their wickets against the penetrative Tidey bowling. Eric Stoughton took a fantastic catch on the boundary to dismiss the dangerous Holly (51), ending up prostrate with the ball clutched over the rope in his outstretched hand, but crucially not actually touching the rope. Captain Justin Gurney said after the game “a high scoring game and I was please to come out on top thanks to the Tideys. It's great to have that fire power in our team. I wonder if they have a few useful cousins to make up a family 6-a-side team? Don and Pete's opening partnership was also important in setting up the win” Apart from the Washington openers, runs came from Paul Irons (17), Dave Walker (16), Robert Tidey (21), Stuart Hood (17*) and Justin Gurney (26*). Washington were also aided by a very high extras total of 57, mostly wides and byes. The solitary non-Tidey wicket went to Eric Stoughton (1-31), the other bowlers being Paul Irons (0-15) and Justin Gurney (0-23). In fact Washington only bowled just over 26 overs – everything happened very quickly in this innings and the Tideys bowled all but seven of these overs. Man of the match: Terry Tidey, for nurturing such family talent under one roof Packing the kit: Max Murrain, who graciously agreed to play for the opposition when it turned out they were short, but then proceeded to get both Demitri and Irons out! Good bowling however. Washington: Don Campbell (+), Pete Demitri, Paul Irons, Dave Walker, Robert Tidey, Stuart Hood, Justin Gurney (c), Nick Tidey, Terry Tidey, Eric Stoughton
