NB - this is a preliminary report by the skipper! full stats to follow! Gurney won his 2nd toss of the year a stuck calthorpe in on a belter of a track, under very hot conditions. Jones and T.Tidey prompty removed both openers. The 3rd wicket partnership was a cracker and frustrated the wash no end. The 3rd wicket fell with the score approx 120, this slowed proceedings marginally, however 224 off 45 was a decent effort. Holt on his long AWAITED RETURN TO THE LINE UP, WAS THE PICK OF THE BOWLERS WITH 2 FOR NOT MANY. T.TideY ALSO BOWLED WELL FOR A 1 FOR RETURN. Roche was outstanding behind the stumps in the face of some wayward bowling. Calthorpe declared after 45 overs and sportingly offerred to extend the match to 20 overs after 6.45pm in an attempt to see a result. The wash therefore looked like facing 35 overs, however this did not materialise! The guru and irons opened and launched a ferocious attack on the calthorpe bowlers. After just 10 overs the wash had clubbed 0/120. irons eventually went for a imperious 78, the guru followed shortly after for a stylish 51. there was then a few more casualties before gluckman and gurney saw the wash home off just 25 overs. Burton played arguably the best shot of the day through the covers for 4. The poor Calthorpe bowlers tried their best but inevitably wilted in the face of a six attack from irons. Gurney was very satisfied with the chase stating 'opening with irons is always a risk ,but when it comes off it comes off in a big way'. The Wash were knackered but satisfied with their day's work.
