MATCH ABANDONED Washington skipper chose a 45 over format for this game and inserted Arkley after winning the toss. Andrews (36) and Spellane (67) gave their side a solid foundation, adding 94 in 24 overs but the later order were unable to capitalise on this good start. Chesterman started promisingly but was out to a brilliant catch by Paul Irons at silly mid on, taking the ball in one hand then transferring it to the other in mid air. And skipper Townsend scored an excellent 31 in 26 minutes. Richard Minion (2-19) and Gary Evans (1-28) were the pick of the Wash attack, ably supported by Mick Kennedy, Justin Gurney and Neil Martin. But 178, even on a slow, damp wicket seemed 50 runs short.
Skipper Pete Demetri (34) and Grant Macdonald (36) competently added 79 for the first wicket in only 14 overs but with Washington looking well set for victory, the rain came down and the game was abandoned. Man of the Match : Richard Minion for his economical bowling in his last game for the club before moving North.
Kit Packer : Club chairman, Gary Evans for arriving half an hour late. (He did indeed pack the kit.)
