Sunday 4th June 2000 vs Sundowners C.C.

Sundowners C.C. 113 all out
Washington C.C. 109 for 8

WTime ran out for Washington in a tense run chase on Sunday. Evenly matched against East Finchley outfit, Sundowners, Wash were within five runs of victory when stumps were drawn. The key to Washington's success was a brilliant bowling performance from off-spinner, James Tapper. Bowling unchanged for 14 overs, he bagged an incredible 7 wickets for 45 - a career-best. Skipper Dave Walker was full of praise after the match: 'Tapper bowled beautifully', he beamed: 'I only hope he can do the same next Sunday against Pacific!'

Kit Cooper (1-18) and Alex McNellan (1-30) also bowled well, and though Reed (33) Medlock (23) and skipper Mike McGowan (25) all played positively, Sundowners were kept within bounds.

David Gluckman (19) and Nick Wickers (18) began brightly for the Washington, and at 79-3, with 12 overs remaining and the impressive Steve Billows (30) firing on all cylinders, victory seemed a formality. Sundowners, however, fought back to set up a tense finale, in which the game could have gone either way.
