Weekend matches are continuing right up to the end of September but I wanted to give you an advance heads up of this year's Club Day on Sunday 19th September.
Club Day is where two teams of Washington players play a friendly match with a few quirky rules thrown in. It's an opportunity to bat or bowl against the people you've been playing alongside all season, and for a fun club social event. Please put the 19th September date in your diary - it will probably be a 1.30pm start at our home ground at North Middlesex in Crouch End, N8.
We will be presenting any club caps which are due, and also we expect that the new club sweaters will be available on the day for those who pre-ordered them.
Last year we had a buffet meal after the game, laid on by North Midds. Those who were there will remember it wasn't the best, so this year we are proposing to go for a meal at a nearby Chinese restaurant. Details to be arranged but I hope as many of you, plus partners, will be able to stay on in the evening for the meal and a couple of drinks.
Looking forward to seeing you there! We will ask for numbers closer to the date itself. |

Chris and Lynsey Farewell - Regents Park and the Albany
When: Saturday 1st May
Where: Regent's Park - Marylebone Green area (see marked area on map)
Time: from 2pm
Bring along anything/anyone. We'll have a few rugs, outdoor games and some picnic nibbles and drinks but make sure you bring your favourites.
We're hoping the weather will be good enough for the whole afternoon, we're then hoping to retire to the The Albany pub on Great Portland Street (just opp the tube) for the remaining of serving time and our fond farewells...
http://www.thealbanyw1w.co.uk/index.html
It's open til late and serves food until 10pm so should fit the bill.
Should the weather turn out not so good, we'll be heading to The Albany for about 6pm....let's hope the sun keeps shining!!
The Jubilee line is completely closed, as is the Met line coming to Baker Street/Great Portland Street but the Hammersmith and City and Circle line is running so you can still get to those stations fine. The Bakerloo (Baker Street/Regents Park) is also running so hopefully it won't be too much of an issue to get this way. The Victoria line is also running fine - for Warren Street station.
Chris will have their mobiles on if you can't find them in the park... |

The Wash will be running a betting pool on the remaining Ashes games. Select an Aussie Win, Draw or English & Welsh Win for 5 quid and if correct, you split the pool. Email tips to ash.cruickshank@hotmail.com. Monies to be collected on game days.
Entries must be in before 10GMT game day; only one entry per game; if no correct tip for the game, the pool carries over to the next game; if no correct tip for the 5th test, the remaining money will be put on the bar at the presentation night.
Congratulations to Brian 'will there be a crash course because I don't know how to play poker innit!' White who won the Kloss Kasino poker tournament last friday. Congratulations also go to Fogs and Simon 'Happy Gilmore' Rider who also finished in the money.
Many thanks to Peter Kloss for the kind use of Casa Kloss and the drinks and to Russ Pendry for the excellent (and vast quantities) of food provided on the night. Profits from the night will be used to subsidise the end of season presentation night.

| Chesters v Barclays Capital CC, Regents Park, 31 July 06.
On a lovely evening Chesters went into their final game of the 20/20 Monday night cricket league knowing that qualification was impossible due to earlier defeats in the tournament. However that did not diminish their will to win, and Chesters ended their campaign on a victorious note.
Skipper Aff Naseem won the toss and sent Barclays into bat on a hard pitch. Barclay’s responded well, however, and after 4 overs the score was 56-0. It was time for an Aussie moment, and Justin Gurney provided it.
As soon as he got the ball in his hand, the magic started to happen: Gurney grabbed 2-16, Pete Demetri a superb 3-19, and George Hope 1-10, as Chesters turned round their poor start. And with a final economical spell from Peter Kloss (1-9), backed up be some decent fielding, it left Chesters facing a get-able 125 for victory.
Chesters suffered an immediate set-back when Hope was dubiously adjudged lbw to the third ball of the innings, but the Naseem and Demetri steadied the ship. Man-of-the-match Demetri was in awesome form, and struck 33 off 24 balls before he was unfortunately run out. A similar fate befell Steven Brown, but only after he had scored an impressive 26 off 13 balls. Gurney was next in, and contributed a fluent 17; at the other end Aff Naseem was playing patiently, holding everything together, and he was still at the crease, unbeaten on 29, when Chesters crossed the line with two overs to spare.
Asked for his reaction after the game, the skipper said simply ‘It was a great effort by everyone’.
Man of the match - Pete Demetri for great bowling and a good batting display.

| Chester v Black Stumps @ Regents Park on 19 June 2006
Chesters fell just eight runs short in this tight Monday night encounter with the mighty Black Stumps. Skipper Paul Irons won the toss, and invited the Stumps to bat. Some good tight bowling by Max Murrain and Steven Brown pinned back the Stumps’ early charge and the skipper himself picked up two crucial wickets for just 15 runs in the middle of the innings. However, Chesters could not stop a smashing 50 off 21 balls by Kieran O’Donnel and the Black stumps ended with 141-5 off their 20 overs.
Chesters, started slowly and the run rate climbed to 9 an over. Wickets fell regularly. Pete Demitri (7) and Paul Knight (24) were followed at crucial stages by Paul Irons (10), John Roche (4), and Bradley Hitchcock (1). The one man to really get to grips with the Black Stumps was Steve Brown who lashed an imperious 51 off 30 balls. He received admirable late-order support from Peter Kloss (11 off 6 balls - includng one huge six down to cow corner) but ultimately the target was just beyond Chesters who finished on 133-5.
Chesters - Paul Irons*, John Roche+, Brad Hitchy, Paul Knight, Max Murrain,
Pete Demitri, Peter Kloss, Steve Brown.

|
| Monday evening, 12th June 2006.
Chesters 99-3 beat Liquorice Allsorts 98 all out by 5 wickets.
On a very hot evening, Paul Irons won the toss and decided field first, restricting the Allsorts to 98 all out. This was a great effort with some great ground fielding by everyone. Great catches taken by John Roche and Aff Naseem, who took the catch of the match.
There was also some great bowling: Richard Jones bowled 4 overs and returned 2-17, Steve Brown slung down three overs (2-7) and Peter Kloss bowled four overs to secure figures of 2-30. The Allsorts were gobbled up for 98.
The chase was on Aff got Chesters off to a great start with 17
off 13 balls, and Lee Fogarty chipped in with 9. However, the Chesters’ victory was down to Steven Brown who saw the team home with a brilliant knock off 42 off 33 balls.
In the end it was a comfortable victory and Chesters got their season off to the best possible start.

| The Washington CC is sad to announce the passing of one of its founder members, West Indian Ziggy Holder. He died in Padstow, a few days ago, aged 70. Having started the club in the late 1960's, he kept it going until the early 1980's, when a new generation of players, including Dave Walker, Alan Moffat and myself, took over the running of the club. We all owe Ziggy a debt of gratitude for starting it all and mourn his passing.
Though we didn't see much of Ziggy for London games, he and Derek Woods were regular supporters during our tours to Cornwall. We extend our sincerest condolences to Derek and any of Ziggy's family members |

Can you ever forgive me? I do hope so as I have been a little busy recently. As most of you know by now I became a father on 19th February. Madalyn (click on name for her website!) is taking up a little bit of my time, so this web site has been a little on the back burner. I have also changed jobs again so have had to move the website which has also taken up some time. So excuses over we are up and running once more. I shall endeavour to keep things upto date and try to add new features whenever possible. If you have any ideas then I am very much open to them. Keep smiling and tell me how beautiful my baby is :)) Other happy news is that Richard Minion and Lara have also added to the Washington babies with the birth of their second son, Samuel. |
