Saturday 12th July 2008 vs Hetairoi C.C.

Devastating Davis Destroys Hetairoi

Hetairoi C.C. 147 all out (45 overs)
Washington C.C. 148 for 0 (29 overs)

Brad Hitchcock reporting.

The Washington CC travelled to Oxford last Saturday to a usually tranquil Corpus Christi ground, but unexpectedly had the nearby Gay Pride Music Festival blowing in with the wind for most of the afternoon. It certainly provided us with some distraction!

After losing the toss, Washington were requested to field first. Things began brightly for the Washington with Sandeep and Murrain producing tight opening bowling spells which also provided them with a wicket a piece. Hetairoi then consolidated after a double bowling change with one of their opening batsman contributing a stylish 91. However, with the introduction of Irons (3 wickets) and the return of Sandeep (4 wickets), Hetairoi capitulated to be all out for 147 in the 45th over. Washington’s fielding, which may have started idly, was spurred into action by a great catch in the deep by new club member Ash Cruickshank.

Washington went to tea confident of chasing this total and so up stepped determined man of the match Chris Davis. Davis (109 n.o.), who was ably supported by Naseem (31 n.o.), was in devastating form as he completed his maiden century for the Washington CC. Davis played the opposition's bowling attack with ease and produced many of his trademark touch glides and powerful pull shots. Hetairoi had no answer to Davis and subsequently he was able to carry his bat throughout the innings with his opening partner Naseem to reach Washington’s target with no loss in the 29th over.
