St Mary's won the toss and elected to bat in a 40 over match at Copthall on Sunday. The Wash struck early through openers Nick Tidey and Gary Evans, though runs came quickly. By the 4th over they were 30-2. But skipper Alex Kosh and Salter set about rebuilding the innings. Kosh batted intelligently, despatching the bad ball and running very well between the wickets. Salter was out of sorts early on and took 30 balls to reach 4. But the partnership settled and they added 130 in 28 overs. The Wash attack toiled on a slow track and the late introduction of Eric Stoughton finally broke the stand. Kosh went on to bat through the innings scoring 113 not out with fourteen 4's. Skipper Pete Demetri opened with Robert Tidey and sent the first 3 balls of the Wash innings to the boundary. The two had added 38 by the 7th over when Tidey was out but Dale Bracegirdle (34) kept the momentum going adding 67 with Demetri in the next 10 overs. David Gluckman and Demetri added 25 in the next 4 overs and the stage was set for Paul Irons. He reached 49 in, for him, a relatively slow 31 minutes (seven 4's, two 6's), but after his dismissal and Demetri's (54) the target had been reduced significantly and Alex Quin (18) and Nick Tidey (10) took the Wash home with 7 overs to spare.
