Sunday 2nd July 2000 vs Bedfont 62 C.C.

Bedfont 62 C.C. 141 all out
Washington C.C. 142 for 5

Washington chalked up another convincing win on Sunday as they brushed aside Surrey outfit Bedfont. They bowled out their hosts for 141 and romped home with five wickets to spare.
Star of the show was opening bowler Jimmy Wood. The speedy Scot grabbed 6 wickets for 42 runs, and his second spell changed the course of the game.

A stand of 73 for the fifth wicket between Heighes (61) and Sutton (35) had steered the home team to a threatening 120-4, and forced skipper Dave Walker to recall his strike bowler. It worked: within twelve balls, Wood had taken four wickets for just four runs! And with a wicket apiece for Terry Tidey (1-38), Nick Tidey (1-8) and Justin Gurney (1-27), Bedfont had been hurried out for 141.

Washington reached their target without upset, all the batsmen chipping in. Nick Wickers took a painful blow but battled through for an unbeaten 35; David Gluckman made 25; Alan Moffat 28 and new Aussie find Mathew Cummins cracked an unbeaten 26 from just 19 balls.

It left Walker in jovial mood: 'There was a point in mid-afternoon when I was wondering where the next wicket would come from', he said. 'I suppose you could say I just had to knock on Wood!'
